Willett & Diankulu Record Double-Doubles as No. 9/6 Queens Routs Wingate

Royals win 13th-straight game, maintain two-game lead in SAC standings

Postgame Interview with Bart Lundy

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
– Shaun Willett recorded his 17th double-double and Lewis Diankulu recorded his fifth double-double as the No. 9/6 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (18-2, 10-0 SAC) led wire-to-wire in a 95-71 win over Wingate University (10-8, 6-4 SAC) on Wednesday night at the Levine Center. Willet led Queens with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Diankulu scored 17 with 10 rebounds.

The victory extended the Royals' winning streak to 13 games, the fourth-longest active streak in Division II, and helped maintain a two-game lead atop the South Atlantic Conference standings.

After opening 6-for-6 from the field, Queens jumped out to a 16-3 edge just over four minutes in. The run featured two made 3-pointers from Van Turner Jr., one from Daniel Carr and one from Shaun Willett. Carr scored 13 points and Turner finished with 12.

Wingate countered with a 9-2 run and cut the Queens lead to 18-12 with 13:42 left in the first after Jarren Cottingham connected on a 3-pointer.

The Royals stretched the first-half lead to 15 points, 30-15, with 11:20 remaining, when Blake Morrow scored two of his 12 points on a jumper in the paint.

However, bolstered by a 4-for-6 first-half 3-point shooting performance by Frankie Johnson, the Bulldogs trimmed the lead further. Queens led 48-39 at halftime.

Johnson led Wingate with 21 points. Marco Haskins scored 15 and Cottingham scored 14.

The Royals played from in front the entire second half and stretched the lead to the final margin of 24 points when Jachai Taylor knocked down a jumper with 13 seconds to play.

The Royals return to action on Saturday at Anderson University. Opening tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Live play-by-play coverage will be available on the Queens Sports Network.
