Royals Shut Out Golden Eagles in 2-0 Road Win

CHARLESTON, W.V. – Playing for the fourth time on the road in five games, the Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (4-3; 0-2) returned to its winning ways today, blanking the University of Charleston (3-5) by a score of 2-0 from Schoenbaum Stadium.

Queens scored two goals in the first half, which proved to be all the cushion the it needed for the duration of the match to snap a two-game losing streak. Emma Rose Stockton got the scoring started for the Royals off an assist from McKenzee Johnson in the 37th minute. Dani Diaz then found the back of the net with just over a minute remaining in the first half to extend the lead to two.

For Stockton, a sophomore, it was her first score of the season after scoring four goals last season as a freshman. For Johnson, a freshman, the assist marked her first career points as a Royal. With her third goal of the season, Diaz, a freshman, has tied teammates Charlotte Ring and Lulu Phan for the team lead with three goals through seven games.

In net, senior captain Rachel Quest notched her second shutout of the year and 18th of her career. She made five saves on five shots on goal, including four saves in the second half to preserve a 2-0 Queens lead. She has played every minute of all seven games in net for Queens this season. She recorded nine shutouts in the 2017 season.

The Golden Eagles fired off 14 shots on the day to the Royals' 10, but Queens was able to fire on target all game long, as eight of those 10 shots came on goal. Stockton led the team with three shots, while Diaz, Ring, and Eirinn McCafferty all finished with two shots and a combined four shots on goal.

The Royals will remain on the road for their next three games, all of which are conference clashes. First up, Queens will round out its September schedule with a face-off against Coker College on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4:30 p.m. in Hartsville, S.C.
