CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's rugby team defeated the Tigers of Clemson University during Parent's Weekend this afternoon, 97-0, at Dickson Field at the Queens Sports Complex.
The Royals were led by sophomore
Nicole Mitchell who tallied three tries and two conversions.
Ella Brucker,
Antares Lance, and
Bridget Mielke added two tries each. Mielke also kicked seven successful conversions. Additionally, six more Royals,
Abby Tobias,
Sarah Awad,
Abby Berberich,
Maddy d'Oliveira,
Regina Baldado, and
Paige Wisebaker, added one try apiece to the board.
Queens dominated in the first half, outscoring Clemson 52-0. Sophomore hooker
Maria Bashmakov started the scoring for the Royals with a try 10 minutes into play, and a successful conversion made by field captain Mielke followed. Back-to-back tries from both Tobias and Lance trailed Bashmakov's try for the Royals increasing their early lead to 17-0.
The scoring frenzy continued into the second half with eight tries being scored by seven different Royals. Wisebaker clenched the win with her only try of the game to end the match at 97-0.
Queens' NSCRO squad will travel next to Greenwood, South Carolina on Saturday, September 9 to take on Lander University. Play will begin at 1 p.m.
