CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team scored two second-half goals in this afternoon's game to secure a 3-1 win over Belmont Abbey College at Bessant Field. The Royals improve to 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play after picking up their fourth straight win. The Crusaders are now 1-2 on the year and 1-1 in the league.

Millie Eaton-Jones,
Carey Karl, and
Mette Beekman each scored in the win while
Paige Ramsey and
Renee Smith each tallied assists.
Mazvita Mtisi led in shots on goal with three while
Jill Sherman totaled two shots on goal.

Eaton-Jones got things going today with a goal in just the first minute of action. However, Belmont Abbey's Demetria Barrow answered quickly, scoring 18 seconds later to knot the game at 1-1.

The game remained tied until Queens capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity in the 58
th. After receiving the ball, Ramsey sent a shot towards the cage that Beekman tipped in to put the Royals in front, 2-1.

The Royals' Karl then scored an insurance goal in the 66
th, sneaking into play after a penalty corner behind Belmont Abbey's goalkeeper to put the ball in the cage. Â Â

The Royals outshot Belmont Abbey, 20-3, putting 10 shots on goal to the Crusaders' three.Â
Lanie Walsh picked up her second win of the season after splitting time in the net with
Jet van den Berg. Walsh recorded both saves on the day for Queens.

The Royals will be back in action on September 29 when they welcome Bellarmine University to Bessant Field. Game time is set for noon. Â
