CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the final match of the Queens Fall Classic, the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-20) to visiting Georgia College inside Curry Arena.
Queens (4-1) hit .220 as a team, while the Bobcats (4-4) registered a .288 hitting percentage as team behind 13 kills and .444 hitting mark from senior middle Taylor Svehla.
Royals sophomore
Casey Tarvin led all players with 14 kills and hit .351, while fellow sophomore
Logan Witt hit .353 from the middle with seven kills to go along with three total blocks.
Another sophomore,
Jordan Proszenyak, totaled 11 kills and 16 digs for her third double-double of the season, while redshirt-freshman
Alexandria Becerra registered 31 assists and eight digs. Sophomore libero
JayCee Jones also finished with 16 digs from the back row.
The first set of action was a back-and-forth affair early on with the two sides playing to eight total ties on the scoreboard. Georgia College took a 16-14 lead following four unanswered points and ended the set with a 7-0 run to take the match lead.
Queens laid claim to an 8-5 lead to begin the second set before Georgia tallied five consecutive points to gain a 10-8 advantage.
The Royals battled back to eventually retake the lead at 15-14 following a kill from freshman
Brooke Farley. A Proszenyak put Queens on the verge of tying the match with a 24-23 lead but the Bobcats scored three straight points to steal the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Georgia College carried momentum over into the third game and built a 9-4 lead, forcing a Queens timeout. The Bobcats held on to their lead throughout the frame as the Royals were never able to get any closer than a four-point deficit in the final set of action.
Queens returns to the court on Tuesday, September 4 at 7:00 p.m. as the team begins South Atlantic Conference play by hosting Coker College in Charlotte.
