ANDERSON, S.C. – Playing in the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Championships, the sixth-seeded Queens University of Charlotte softball team was unable to overcome the second-seeded Cobras of Coker (35-15; 13-8) today, falling by a final score of 5-0 in the matchup from the AU Softball Complex.

Queens (35-15; 11-11), who now awaits the NCAA Selection Show to learn its postseason fate, reached the 35-win mark this season for the first time in program history.

After defeating Newberry in extra innings of the dramatic quarterfinal round last night, the Royals were unable to get the bats going against the Cobras as Coker limited Queens to four hits, all singles. Christine Carver (18-6) picked up the win for Coker as she went six strong innings, giving up three hits and no walks, striking out six.

Courtney Pearson (16-9) got the start for Queens for the second consecutive game on the heels of her complete-game, eight-inning outing against Newberry. The Cobras jumped on her early, tagging her for five runs (five earned) on six hits through three innings. She struck out five and walked five.Â

Ali Celiberti entered in relief for Pearson in the fourth inning and faced the final 12 batters, holding Coker to no runs and three hits while striking out two.

Evie Scott all recorded singles for Queens.

The Royals entered today's game with a 1-1 record against Coker this season. The two teams faced off in a doubleheader on April 3 in Hartsville, S.C. Queens won the first game, 8-3, before dropping the second game, 2-0.

Coker moves on to the Championship Game to face eighth-seeded Carson-Newman, who defeated Anderson in their semifinals bout by a score of 6-4. That game will be played tonight at 6:30 p.m.
