CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team, ranked 32nd in the nation, pulled a 5-4 upset of No. 10 Wingate University on Saturday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex.
 
The Royals held a 2-1 advantage after the completion of doubles play, earning the first point with an 8-4 at No. 3 by sophomores Agustin Aran Martin and Sebastian Meum. Senior Andor Vas and freshman Kasper Rolfsen combined to an 8-5 win at No. 2 for Queens' second point of the match.
 
After Wingate began singles play with back-to-back wins, sophomore transfer Julian Bosch collected a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 to tie the match at three points apiece. The Bulldogs went ahead with another win at No. 5 before the Royals responded with a 7-6 (10-3), 7-6 (10-3) win at No. 4 from Meum.
 
Aran Martin came through in the clutch, tallying a 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (10-3) win in a marathon match at No. 3 to pick up Queens' fifth point and seal the match victory. The win was Aran Martin's fifth straight triumph in singles play.
 
"This is a great win for our team. We have a lot of respect for Coach Cabana and the tennis program at Wingate," said Head Coach Billy Boykin. "We knew coming into the match that we would have to compete at a high level and they would push us both mentally and physically.
 
"Our guys dialed in for the full four hours and made some big plays down the stretch."
 
Queens begins a three-match road trip next week as the team travels to Florence, S.C. for a match against No. 21 Francis Marion University on Wednesday, April 4, at 2 p.m.
