SIOUX FALLS, S.D.  – The historical 2017-18 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball season came to a close tonight after the Royals fell 105-99 in double overtime to third-seeded Northern State University in the NCAA DII Men's Basketball National Semifinals. Following their second appearance in the semifinals in program history, the Royals end their season with the most wins in program history at 32-4. The Wolves advance to the National Championship game with a record of 36-3 to face top-seeded Ferris State. Â

Back-to-back triples from Queens'
Ike Agusi would help the Royals pull in front 89-84 with 27 seconds left to play in tonight's first overtime period. But, Northern State's DJ Pollard would get fouled on a three-pointer sending him to the line where he knocked down the first two before missing the third. Gabe King of the Wolves would come up with a huge rebound allowing Pollard to then tie the game up with a three-pointer to send the game into a second overtime period where the Wolves took control for good. Northern State would go on a 14-0 on run the stretched across both periods en route to grabbing their largest lead of the night over Queens, 104-94, before taking the victory.

Agusi led the Royals scoring a new career-high 27 points.
Jalin Alexander added 20 points and
Lewis Diankulu totaled 19 points and six rebounds.
Daniel Carr added 12 points and five rebounds while
Mike Davis chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Shaun Willett scored nine points and
Todd Withers completed play with seven rebounds.

In the first half, Queens used an 8-0 run to take over control of the game and force a timeout by the Wolves at 13:08. Later, Davis would get hot knocking down a pair of three-pointers followed by two at the charity stripe to help the Royals grab their largest lead of the game, 31-20, with 5:41 to play. However, the Royals would go cold in the final minutes before the break as Northern State closed with a 9-2 run to give the game a four-point margin, 33-29, heading into the locker room.

The Wolves quickly tied the game up in the second before Pollard put his team in front, 39-37, with a layup at 16:44. Though tying the game up twice after the lead change, Queens would not get ahead again until a jumper from Alexander at 8:12 gave the game a 59-58 score. Three ties and four lead changes followed before the Royals' 7-2 run gave Queens a 74-69 lead with 1:22 left in regulation. The Wolves then scored five points before the buzzer, connecting on 3-of-4 from the charity stripe and a field goal, to knot the game up and force overtime where they eventually took the win.

The Royals shot 47.3-percent from the floor in the tonight while the Wolves shot 55-percent from the floor after being held to just 36.36-percent shooting in the opening half. Additionally, Queens outscored the Northern State 50-40 in the paint in the period and won the battle under the glass narrowly, 37-36. Though forcing the Wolves to commit 19 turnovers, Queens would only score 11 points off of turnovers compared to Northern State's 20 points scored off of the Royals' 15 ball-handling mishaps.

Ian Smith led the Wolves with 22 points while Darin Peterka added 20 points. Logan Doyle added 18 points and Pollard completed the game with 17 points all scored in the second half. Carter Evans was just shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

With the loss, Queens closes its year after returning to the Elite Eight and the National Semifinals for the first time since 2003. This year's appearance in the NCAA DII Men's Basketball Championships is the 11
th for the Royals in program history and the third straight. Queens head coach
Bart Lundy has led Queens to the Elite Eight three times.
