CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team suffered its sixth straight loss with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) defeat at the hands of Barton College on Friday night in Curry Arena.
Queens fell to 3-14 overall after hitting just .051 on the night, but did collect seven total blocks. Barton improved to 11-6 overall thanks in large part to 12 total blocks and a .242 hitting percentage.
The Royals held an early 4-2 lead in the first set behind two kills from junior
Marco Vecellio and another from graduate student
Jake Dube. Queens continued to lead at 9-7 following a Barton service error, but a 7-1 run put the Bulldogs in front by four points.
The Bulldogs led by as many as seven points in the opening set as Queens put together a late run to cut the deficit to a two-point margin before Barton ended the frame.
Barton was in control from start to finish in the second set of action, while the Royals opened the third on a 7-4 run and led 8-6 after a kill from freshman
Aleksandar Perisic. The Bulldogs responded with three unanswered points before a service error saw the two sides knotted at 9-all. From there, BC put together an 11-3 run that eventually sealed the win.
Vecellio led all Royals with 10 kills, while Perisic followed with six kills and a .500 hitting percentage to go along with seven total blocks. Freshmen
Conner Nagaki and
Tristan Santoyo led Queens with six digs apiece on defense.
The Royals travel to Franklin Springs, Ga. tomorrow for a 3 p.m. matchup with Emmanuel College.
