No. 15 Royals Open SAC Play with Win over LMU

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.  – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, currently ranked 15th in the nation, opened South Atlantic Conference play this afternoon on the road at a neutral site against Lincoln Memorial University. The Royals won 21-3 over the Railsplitters to snap a five-game skid and move to 2-6 on the year and 1-0 in the league. Lincoln Memorial falls to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in SAC play.
 
Katie Wardle totaled four goals and two assists for six points while Ally Blood recorded three goals and three assists for six points as well. Sydney Lear also totaled four goals while Allison Conn added a hat trick. Rachel Perrett chipped in with two goals and Hanna Scott and Hayley Anna each tallied one goal and one assist.
 
On the defensive end, Cammy Case and Sarah Cliff each totaled three caused turnovers. Case also recorded five ground balls and four draw controls. Jasmin Singh totaled five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Chase Brokaw and Sara Mitrecic split time in goal to combine for four saves.
 
After trading goals with Lincoln Memorial in the opening two minutes of play, Queens scored four unanswered goals to lead 5-1 with 21:39 to play. A goal from the Railsplitters would sneak into the net at 20:30 cutting the margin to three, 5-2, but an 8-0 run for Queens followed to put them on top, 13-2. Lincoln Memorial's Casey Kelly then score with 44 seconds on the clock to give the game a 13-3 score at the break.
 
Queens then ran away with the game in the second half adding eight goals to the board while holding the Railsplitters scoreless in the period.
 
Queens outshot the Railsplitters, 42-11, putting 34 shots on goal. The Royals also totaled 21 ground balls to Lincoln Memorial's seven and won the battle at the draw, 17-7.
 
Kelly, Amara Moss, and Kennedy Buechner each scored one goal for the Railsplitters. Shannon Novak and Micayla Starnes split time in goal to combine for 13 saves.
 
Queens will travel to Hickory, N.C., on Wednesday, Mar. 21 to take on Lenoir-Rhyne University. The Royals defeated the Bears twice last season, winning 20-7 during the regular season and 18-8 in the SAC Championships. The first draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
