CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second time this season, the Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team fell in five sets to North Greenville University. The Crusaders came away with a 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 23-25, 15-9) win over the Royals inside Curry Arena on Friday night.
Both teams hit in the negative in the opening set of play as Queens (4-16) was able to take advantage of four North Greenville (10-11) service errors to win the frame.
The Crusaders responded with wins in both the second and third sets by a combined total of just five points as both teams hit over the .300 mark in the second set but Queens struggled in the third, hitting negative for the second time in the match.
Queens was able to bounce back in the fourth set of play. After trailing 8-5 early on, three consecutive points helped the Royals tie the set at 8-all. NGU went back in front by a score of 12-8, forcing Queens Head Coach
Jeremy Price to call a timeout.
The break proved to be just what the Royals needed as a kill from graduate
Jake Dube sparked a 7-3 run to tie the set at 15-all. The score was tied once again at 22-22 before Queens scored three of the set's final four points, sealing the win with a kill from freshman
Nic Cavallaro.
North Greenville controlled the fifth and final set from start to finish, building a lead as large as an eight-point margin en route to the match victory.
Cavallaro notched his first career double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs, while fellow freshman
Conner Nagaki led all players with a career-high 19 digs from the back row.

Tristan Santoyo chipped in 13 digs to go along with eight kills on the outside and freshman
Aleksandar Perisic had seven total blocks.
The Royals return to action next Thursday, March 22, when they take the short trip to Belmont, N.C. for a 7 p.m. matchup with Belmont Abbey College. Queens earned the program's first ever win on January 12 with a 3-2 triumph over the Crusaders in the Levine Center.
