TIGERVILLE, S.C.  – After rattling off eight-straight wins, the Queens University of Charlotte softball team had its winning streak snapped in extra innings against No. 23 North Greenville in the first leg of Tuesday's doubleheader at Jan McDonald Field. The Royals quickly bounced back in Game Two, regaining their winning ways en route to a complete-game shutout on the arm of
Shannon McGuire.

The Royals fell by a final score of 3-2 in Game One before taking a commanding victory in Game Two, 3-0. Queens improves to 16-3 on the season while North Greenville moves to 9-5.

In a matchup that saw both starting pitchers twirl complete games, North Greenville capitalized in Game One with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth and the score knotted at 2-2. Jaelin Griffin stepped to the plate and singled down the left field line, allowing Brooke Wade to cross the plate as the game's winning run.

Queens opened the scoring in the top of the first when
Evie Scott singled to center field, scoring
Sara Ingoldsby. After
Sydney Ditto advanced to third,
Abby Lathan followed up with a bunt single that scored Ditto as the Royals jumped to an early 2-0 lead. The lead stood until a Celsea Rivers single for North Greenville in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at 2-2, eventually leading to extra innings.Â

For Queens, it marked only the second time this season suffering a road loss.Â

In this afternoon's second game, starting pitching once again shined for Queens, this time led by starter McGuire in the circle. McGuire improved to 8-0 on the season in only her fifth start. She struck out the final six batters of the game, tallying 12 putouts total to go with only two hits and no runs allowed. The freshman pitcher entered Tuesday leading Queens with a 2.27 ERA in 37.0 innings pitched. She now has a 1.91 ERA in 44.0 innings pitched.

The Royals' bats broke it open in the top of the fifth, extending the lead to three off a two-RBI double to left center by Ingoldsby. Queens opened the scoring with one run in the first inning off a sacrifice fly from Ditto after Ingoldsby advanced to third on a double from
Sabrina Martinez. McGuire then finished things off by striking out the side in back-to-back innings to seal the win for the away team.
With the Game Two victory, Queens improves to 10-2 on the road this season.Â

Queens will take four days off before hitting the road once again for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 3 against Augusta University in Augusta, Ga. Augusta University currently holds a 4-10 overall record on the season. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon, while first pitch for Game Two is slated for 2:00 p.m.
