HARROGATE, TENN. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team led by 12 points at halftime, but fell victim to a second rally in a 66-58 overtime loss to Lincoln Memorial University in the team's regular season finale.
The Royals led by four points after the opening quarter of play and extended their lead to 34-22 at intermission, thanks to a strong performance on offense and defense. Queens shot 52 percent from the floor in the opening half, while holding the Railsplitters to a 20 percent shooting performance and forcing 11 turnovers.
However, Lincoln Memorial quickly cut the deficit to single digits early in the third quarter and eventually took a one-point lead with 34 seconds remaining in the period. Junior
Lade Adepoju made two free throws in the closing seconds of the third to put Queens back in front by a point.
The lead changed hands six times during the fourth quarter before senior
Mendy McNeese hit back-to-back free throw attempts with just three seconds remaining in regulation to put the Royals ahead by a point. Lincoln Memorial's Jordan Brightwell hit one of two free throw attempts after being fouled with a second remaining to tie the score at 56-all and send the game into overtime.
Lincoln Memorial controlled the overtime period, hitting 3-of-6 shot attempts, including a perfect 2-for-2 performance from long range, to seal the home victory.
Adepoju led all players with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go along with five assists and two steals. The double-double was her fifth of the season.
McNeese followed with 12 points in 32 minutes off of the bench, while freshmen Krisitan Eanes and
Herning Wang each had 11 points in the contest.
Queens concludes the 2017-18 season with a 4-22 overall record and a 1-19 mark in South Atlantic Conference play.
