MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) loss to the University of Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon in the final game of a nine-game road trip.
The Royals (3-10) struggled offensively and hit just .063, while the Trojans improved to 8-3 overall after hitting .231 as a team.
Graduate student
Jake Dube began the match with a service ace before Mount Olive quickly got out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set. Queens closed the gap to a two-point deficit following a Trojan service ace and a Dube kill, but UMO scored five unanswered points and controlled the rest of the set.
The Trojans were in front throughout the second and third sets of play, leading to the home victory. Queens trailed by six points late in the third set of action, but used a 7-2 run to get within a point of tying the score before Mount Olive ended the match with a kill.
Freshman
Aleksandar Perisic led the team for the second straight night with eight kills and a .227 hitting percentage, followed by six kills and five digs from Dube. Freshman libero led the Royals on defense with nine digs.
Queens returns home for the first time in more than a month on Friday, February 23 as the team hosts a tri-match with St. Andrews University and Alderson Broaddus University inside the Levine Center.
