CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team suffered a 49-32 setback at the hands of visiting Newberry College on Wednesday evening in Curry Arena in the program's annual Play4Kay game.

Caitlyn Moore netted the game's first basket and the Royals held an 8-5 lead over Newberry following four consecutive points from senior
Mendy McNeese with just under three minutes to play in the opening quarter.
The Wolves twice cut the deficit to one point, but back-to-back layups from freshman

Melissa Blatnik helped Queens to a 12-11 lead following the first period.
The two teams traded baskets in the early going of the second quarter before Newberry's Meg Essex made a layup and two free throws to put her squad ahead 19-16 with just over six minutes remaining. The Wolves closed out the half on a 6-3 run, including hitting four free throws, to build a six-point lead at intermission.
Newberry opened the second half with two early baskets to extend its advantage to double digits before consecutive layups from freshman
Kristian Eanes and another from McNeese cut the deficit to a four-point margin midway through the quarter.
Queens was able to keep the deficit at single digits into the fourth quarter before seven unanswered points from Essex put the Wolves ahead 41-25 with 8:43 to play. The Newberry lead grew to as large as 19 points late in the contest as the Wolves secured a road win.
McNeese was the lone Royal in double figures, scoring 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor, including a three-pointer and two free throws.
The Royals remain at home for their final home game of the season on Saturday, February 17 at 2 p.m. against Mars Hill University. The team will honor its senior class during a ceremony at halftime of the men's basketball game which immediately follows the conclusion of the women's game.
