Highlights

CHARLOTTE, N.C.
– The 21st-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (9-2, 3-0 SAC) shot 60 percent from 3-point range as the Royals defeated the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters (5-3, 2-1 SAC), 90-62, on Saturday at the Levine Center. Queens went 12-for-20 from beyond the arc, led by Daniel Carr who scored a game-high 22 points on five of seven 3-point shooting, to pick up the Royals' fourth straight win and their eighth in the last nine games.

Shaun Willett and Lewis Diankulu each recorded a double-double in the winning effort. Willett had 14 points and 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double in 11 games, while Diankulu scored 11 points with 10 rebounds for the second double-double of his career.

After falling behind 6-0, and burning two early timeouts less than three minutes into the game, the Royals exploded for a 15-0 run that featured 3-pointers from Van Turner Jr., Carr and Josh Brodowicz, to take a 15-6 lead just shy of six minutes in. Turner finished with 11 points of 3-for-6 3-point shooting, while Brodowicz scored six points on two of two from distance.

Queens stretched the lead to double figures for the first time with 8:17 remaining in the first half when a Diankulu made free throw put the Royals up 27-17. However, the Railsplitters answered and cut the deficit to one point with 2:41 remaining in the half when Kamaran Calhoun's layup made it 35-34.

Queens closed the half on an 8-0 run, which featured back-to-back contested three's from Carr late in the shot clock that gave the Royals an 11-point lead at the break, 45-34.

In the second half, Queens held LMU to 33-percent shooting and 1-for-13 (7.7%) from 3-point range. The lead hit its peak of 33 points when Kenny Dye connected on a 3-pointer to put Queens ahead, 89-56, with 2:05 remaining. Dye scored a career-high 11 points.

LMU was led by 17 points from Calhoun. Cornelius Taylor and Anthony Brown each scored 11.

The loss is the most lopsided defeat for the Railsplitters since 2008 and the first conference regular-season loss in 36 games since Queens beat LMU on Jan. 9, 2017.

Queens returns to action on Wednesday afternoon versus Johnson & Wales University at 12:30 p.m. at the Levine Center. Tickets are $6 and admission is free for Queens students with their Queens ID. Live play-by-play coverage will be available on the Queens Sports Network.
