MATTHEWS, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team placed fourth at the 2018 USA-Rugby Division II National Tournament, hosted by the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex, this past weekend, falling to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (45-36) in the Final Four round and to Iowa Central Community College (34-22) in the battle for third place. The Royals complete their fall season with a record of 8-6.

In game one Saturday morning, the Royals were led by freshman
Jordan Memea with two tries, followed by
Decor Davis,
Doyle Hedgepeth,
Devinaire Hayes, and
Xavier Prince who each scored one in the loss. Senior
Lebo Ngwenya also recorded three conversions.

The Royals were down at the half 24-19, but couldn't stop the scoring of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the second half of play forcing the squad to take on Iowa Central CC in the fight for third overall.

Sunday morning, Queens saw tries scored by three freshmen, Memea, Prince, and Hedgepeth, and one sophomore,
Charles Bradbary, against the Tritons. Bradbary also tallied one conversion in the loss. The squad trailed once again at the half, 10-28, and tried to close the gap in the second half of play, but unfortunately came up short, securing fourth place in the tournament.
