GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team fell, 94-62, on the road this afternoon at Tusculum University in a matchup of two teams in search of their first South Atlantic Conference win of the season. The loss brings the Royals' record to 4-5 on the year and 0-4 in league play while the Pioneers, who rank 10
th in the D2SIDA Southeast Region Poll, improve to 5-2 on the season and 1-2 in the SAC.
Lade Adepoju led the Royals with 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists while
Jaleah Goff added 10 points and five rebounds.
Carolina Bernardeco added nine points, four rebounds, and four assists.
The Royals got off to a strong start in today's game building a four-point lead on a three-point play from
Kristian Eanes that put the visiting team in front 6-2 with 7:05 on the clock in the first. However, three ties soon followed before the Pioneers took over control of the game for good ending the period with a 5-0 spurt to take a 17-11 lead into the second.
The Pioneers had doubled the Royals' point total to lead 22-11 when a pair of free throws from Eanes ended Queens scoring drought with 7:34 on the clock. An 8-0 run followed for Tusculum increasing their lead to 17, 30-13, by the 5:34 mark and their lead grew to as much as 25 points before the period ended with them holding a 44-20 lead over the Royals at half.
Queens displayed its best offensive performance in the third quarter shooting 60-percent from the floor to score 26 points in the period but the Pioneers would shoot 68.75-percent to score 31 points and maintain their lead. The margin then swelled to as much as 34 points before the end of regulation.
The Royals shot 37.5-percent from the floor this afternoon while Tusculum performed with a 52.2-percent clip. The Pioneers also forced 22 turnovers by the Royals converting them into 30 points.
Callie Paterson led all on the court today with 21 points to lead Tusculum. Mia Long added 16 points and Jalia Arnwine scored 12 points.
The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, December 19 when they welcome Coker College to Curry Arena for their final game before the holiday break. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
