Royals Rally for 65-59 Road Win over North Greenville

Postgame Interview with Sarah Jansen

TIGERVILLE, S.C. –
Playing in its first road contest of the season, the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team came away with a 65-59 non-conference win over North Greenville University in Hayes Gymnasium.

The Royals' defense was on display once again, forcing 22 turnovers and converting those into 21 total points to improve to 3-1 on the year. Queens held the Crusaders' leading scorer, junior Karen Donahew, to just 13 points which is 11 points fewer than her season-average as NGU fell to 1-4 overall.

North Greenville opened up a 16-point lead early in the game on its home floor before Queens used seven unanswered points over the final two minutes of the first quarter to cut the deficit to nine points.

A basket by NGU's Elizabeth Trentham once again put the Crusaders ahead by double figures to open the second quarter of play, but the Royals held North Greenville scoreless over a 5:13 stretch and tied the game at 24-24 on a three-pointer from freshman Tia McMillian. The two sides traded baskets over the course of the half's final three minutes as a Donahew three-pointer locked the teams in a 28-all tie at intermission.

Queens outscored North Greenville by two points in the third quarter and never trailed in the fourth period to pick up the road victory.

Eight different Royals scored in the win, led by freshman Jaleah Goff with 13 points to go along with four rebounds. Senior Lade Adepoju followed with 11 points, making 4-of-5 shot attempt, and five rebounds, while sophomore Herning Wang had nine points and nine rebounds to narrowly miss a double-double.

Queens has a week away from competition before returning to the court to open South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, November against Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C.
