GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's rugby team defeated Furman University this past weekend, 36-31, to advance to the USA Rugby Division II National Tournament this weekend.
The Royals saw tries scored by
Jordan Memea,
Jacob Morris,
Decor Davis,
Doyle Hedgepeth,
Lebo Ngwenya, and
Stanton Johnson. Ngwenya also tallied three conversions in the win.
Queens led 19-10 at the half with scores from Memea, Morris, and Davis and two conversions from Ngwenya.
When the final whistle blew, Queens had added three more tries to the board from Hedgepeth, Johnson, and a try and conversion kick from Ngwenya to make the final score 36-31 for the Royals.
With this win, the squad qualifies for the Sweet 16 round in the national tournament and will travel again to Greenville, N.C. Saturday, November 17 for the regional round. They will take on a final four team from last year, Norwich University at 11 a.m.
