JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team battled back after dropping the first two sets, but suffered a 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 13-15, 25-16) loss to league foe Carson-Newman University on Saturday afternoon.
Despite 15 kills from sophomore
Casey Tarvin, the Royals (12-13, 8-10 SAC) were only able to hit .096 in the match but did have a season-high 11 service aces. Fellow sophomore
Jordan Proszenyak finished with a career-high four service aces and junior
Mallory Swarts chipped in three of her own.
The first set of action was tightly contested as the two sides played to 11 total ties and six lead changes with the Eagles (13-11, 9-8) coming out on top. Anotheer back-and-forth set ensued in the second as CNU used a 4-0 run to close out the frame and take a 2-0 lead.
Proszenyak opened the third set with back-to-back service aces and the Royals led from start to finish, hitting .367 as a team to extend the match and avoid a sweep.
However, the Eagles responded with three consecutive points to begin the fourth set and never gave up the lead en route to the home victory.
Tarvin chipped in 16 digs on defense to complete her 16
th double-double of the season, while Swarts had 33 assists and 12 digs of her own for her fifth straight double-double performance and 11
th oft the season. Proszenyak totaled nine kills and 14 dig, and fellow sophomores
JayCee Jones and
Chanel Turner each had 13 digs on defense.
The Royals travel to Augusta, Ga. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 for their final road contest of the season against non-conference opponent Augusta University before returning home next weekend to host Newberry College and Anderson University to close out the regular season.
