CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team (6-5; 2-4) fended off one of the best teams in the nation in No. 19 Carson-Newman for one half of play on Saturday, however eventually succumbed to a high-powered offense in the second half of play as the Royals fell to the Eagles, 2-0, from Dickson Field.
Queens held Carson-Newman scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play before the Eagles struck just over a minute after halftime with a goal from Magda Mosengo. Mosengo, who leads the conference in goals with 13, then put in her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute to give Carson-Newman the 2-0 lead.
Goalkeeper
Rachel Quest made four saves for the Royals, including three in the first half, which kept her team tied at 0-0 going into the break.
Freshman
Dani Diaz led Queens with two shots, including one on goal, which proved to be the Royals' best scoring opportunity. Diaz took a free kick from close to midfield and put a near perfect shot on goal, forcing Carson-Newman goalkeeper Jackie Burns to make a leaping save as the ball almost found its way into the upper-90.
Queens will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at home against Wingate. Starting time is slated for 5:00 p.m.
