CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-16, 14-25, 25-15, 25-20) to the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University on Friday night inside Curry Arena.
The Royals (9-11, 5-8 SAC) were unable to avenge a September loss to Lincoln Memorial (11-6, 7-4) as the Railsplitters hit. 243 as a team and collected eight total blocks. Queens was able to register seven service aces in the loss, including two apiece from junior
Mallory Swarts and sophomore
JayCee Jones.
After Lincoln Memorial won the first set of play without committing an error on offense, Queens responded with an equally dominant second set. The Royals hit .469 and had just one attack error en route to evening the match at 1-all.
In the third, the Railsplitters led from start to finish to take a one-set lead in the match before the two sides engaged in a tight fourth set of play.
The fourth frame saw seven ties on the scoreboard and four lead changes as LMU led throughout much of the early going. A quick 4-0 spurt put the Railsplitters in front by a point as the lead grew to a 20-15 advantage late.
The Royals were able to climb back within striking distance following consecutive kills from
Chanel Turner,
Lindsay Elmore and
Jordan Proszenyak, but Lincoln Memorial escaped with the win with back-to-back kills to end the Queens' rally.
Proszenyak led the Royals with 14 kills and chipped in 22 digs on defense, as fellow sophomore
Casey Tarvin had a double-double of her own with 11 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore
Logan Witt also finished with 11 kills and Turner totaled nine kills and 10 digs to go along with four total blocks.
Jones paced the defense with 25 digs, while redshirt-freshman
Alexandria Becerra and Swarts finished with 23 and 19 assists, respectively.
Queens has a quick turnaround as the team hosts Tusculum University tomorrow in a match scheduled to being at 2 p.m. in the Levine Center.
