No. 2 Queens Travels to Mars Hill for Saturday Matchup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The second-ranked Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team faces Mars Hill University on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Royals lead the all-time series with the Lions 8-5, and have won each of the last four meetings.

Opening tipoff from Stanford Arena is scheduled for 4 p.m. Live play-by-play coverage will be available on the Queens Sports Network with Phil Constantino.

-The Royals enter the New Year unbeaten for the third consecutive season, and are 14-0 for the second straight year, after most recently defeating rival Wingate University, 75-58, on Wednesday night at the Levine Center. Jalin Alexander led four Royals in double figures with 15 points.

-The Royals have secured 11 of their 14 wins by double figures, and have compiled nine wins over teams with a .500 record or better, fours win over regionally-ranked opponents and one win over a nationally-ranked opponent.

-Queens is beating opponents by an average of 16.3 points per game, which ranks 13th nationally.

-The Royals' opponent's combined record is 90-86 with a combined winning percentage of .511.

-After losses by three unbeaten teams on Thursday night, (No. 1 Northwest Missouri State, No. 9 Arkansas-Fort Smith, and No. 15 West Florida), Queens is one of five remaining unbeaten teams in Division II, and one of ten remaining unbeaten NCAA programs.

-Queens is the only program in the nation, in all levels of NCAA competition, to have started each of the last three seasons 10-0 or better.

-In Wednesday's win over Wingate, Queens held its opponent to 60 points or less for the second consecutive game and for the fourth time this season. The Royals are allowing 66.5 points per game which is the best mark in the South Atlantic Conference and ranks 22nd in the nation (Last year Queens led the league at 73.3 PPG allowed).

-In Saturday's win over Tarleton State (64-51 on Dec. 30) the Royals held the Texans 31 points below their season average.

-With the victory over Tarleton State, Queens completed its non-conference schedule unbeaten for the third consecutive season. The Royals last non-conference loss came versus Livingstone, 73-71, on Dec. 3, 2014. Queens has won 24 straight non-conference games including the postseason.

-Queens is ranked No. 2 in the NABC/Division II National Rankings receiving one first-place vote, and slotted only behind reigning national champion Northwest Missouri State, who received 15 of a possible 16 first-place votes. The Royals are also ranked No. 3 nationally in the D2SIDA media poll, and are the top-ranked teams in the southeast region receiving four of a possible six votes for the top spot. The SAC features two teams ranked in the top 10 nationally with Lincoln Memorial University at No. 6 in the Coaches Poll.

-Queens is led by SAC Player of the Week Todd Withers who is averaging a team-high 14.1 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. Two games ago versus Tarleton State, Withers grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and scored 11 points to record his 12th career double-double and his 5th of the season.

-Since the start of December, Withers has scored in double figures in all eight games (14.75 PPG) and posted a double-figure rebounding performance on four occasions (9.1 RPG).

-The Royals feature a balanced attack with four of five starters averaging double figures (Withers 14.1 PPG, Mike Davis 12.6 PPG, Alexander 11.1 PPG, and Ike Agusi 10.8 PPG), and have featured six different leading scorers in a game this season.
 
Mars Hill Lions (2-11, 0-6 SAC)

-Mars Hill most recently lost to Tusculum College, 85-71, on Wednesday night. Luke Van-Rijn led the Lions with 14 points.

-Mars Hill has lost five consecutive games. The Lions last win came versus Warren Wilson College, 101-92, on Dec. 5.

-Mars Hill is 1-3 at home this season.

-The Lions are led by Charles Moore who averages 11.3 points per game. Nassyr Daniel leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 rebounds per game.

-The Lions average 73 points per game, which ranks eighth in the conference, and allow 93.3 points per game which ranks last in the league.
