HUNTINGDON, PA. – Playing in Pennsylvania for the second straight night, the Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (29-31, 25-22, 25-17, 25-17) at the hands of six-time NCAA Division III National Champion Juniata College on Saturday.
Queens Head Coach
Jeremy Price, who coached the Eagles from 2007-2010, had his Royals in the mix early with a lead in the first set of action. A kill from
Aleksandar Perisic, coupled with a Juniata attack error and back-to-back service aces from
Nic Cavallaro put the Royals on top 14-10.
Following another Juniata attack error and a kill from
Tristan Santoyo, Queens moved its lead to 16-10 and held a 24-19 advantage with set point on the horizon. However, Juniata stormed back to ties the score and force extra points. The Royals eventually prevailed, sealing the set with an Eagle attack error and a kill from Perisic.
The Royals held another early lead at 12-10 in the second set before the Eagles used four unanswered points to build a two-point lead. Juniata held set point at 24-18, but Queens rallied for a 4-0 run before eventually falling short by three points.
Juniata was in control throughout the third and fourth sets of play, hitting over .340 in each to take the match on its home court. The Eagles hit .269 as a team in the contest as junior Quinn Peterson led all players with 22 kills.
Queens'
Jake Dube, who transferred to the Royals after two years playing for the Eagles, tallied a career-high 15 kills to go along with eight digs. Cavallaro followed with nine kills of his own, while Perisic turned in seven kills and eight total blocks.
Setter
Jack Mitchner had a season-high 38 assists as well as seven total blocks and five digs, while Santoyo led the Royals defense with 10 digs.
The Royals' early season road trip continues next weekend when the team travels to West Virginia for back-to-back contests against Alderson Broaddus University and University of Charleston.
