SALISBURY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team picked up its second three-set sweep of a South Atlantic Conference member with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-19) win over Catawba College on Friday night.
The Royals (8-4, 3-3) hit over .300 as a unit in both the first and third sets of play, while the defense collected 67 digs and seven total blocks in holding the Indians (3-8, 1-6) to a .070 hitting percentage.
After both sides traded points in the early portion of the first set, back-to-back kills from senior
Alex Thompson sparked a 5-0 spurt to put the Royals comfortably ahead for a 1-0 lead in the match.
Catawba clung to a 6-5 lead in the second set before three consecutive Indian errors allowed Queens to go ahead 8-6. The score was tied three times until the host retook a three-point lead at 16-13 and eventually stretched the margin to five points with a 21-16 score.

Taylor Henry and senior
Jessica Raines had consecutive kills as part of a 4-0 run for the Royals to get with a point of tying the set. The Indians held onto the lead for a short period, but Queens score the set's final four points to come away with a two-point victory.
In the third and final frame, the Royals were in control from start to finish, collecting 16 kills and committing just three errors en route to the sweep.
Senior
Rebecca Cochran led the team with nine kills and 16 digs, while Raines and freshman
Casey Tarvin each finished with seven kills and Henry totaled six kills and five total blocks. Senior
Sydney Kunz tallied 32 assists and 12 digs, followed by sophomores
Lexie Dolecheck and
Mallory Swarts with 12 digs each.
Queens concludes its five-game road trip with another league matchup with Lenoir-Rhyne University tomorrow at 2 p.m in Hickory, N.C.
