Women’s Volleyball Collects 10 Aces In Four-Set Win Over Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team tallied 10 aces, including three each from senior Rebecca Cochran and junior Taylor Henry, in a 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-11) win over Lenoir-Rhyne University on Saturday afternoon.

Lenoir-Rhyne (7-4, 4-2) entered the match third overall in the South Atlantic Conference, however Queens (9-4, 4-3) forced the Bears to hit .000 in the match. The Bears had negative hitting marks in both the second and fourth sets of play as Queens held 44-29 edge in total kills.

After the Bears won the opening frame, responded with a convincing nine-point win in set two. LR took the set's first two points before six unanswered points put the Royals ahead for the remainder of the set.

In the third, Queens opened with a 3-1 lead including a service ace and kill by Henry, before the Bears got out to a 7-5 lead. The Royals rallied for a 14-12 lead on back-to-back kills from Cochran and freshman Casey Tarvin, but Lenoir-Rhyne fought back for a 19-18 advantage late.

The set was later tied at 19-19 and 20-20 before five consecutive points for Queens ended the frame. Freshman Casey Snyder entered the third set as a sub and delivered the final three points from the service line, including two service aces. Queens led from start to finish in the fourth and final set to seal its second straight victory.

Cochran led the team with her ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 12 kills and 21 digs. Tarvin recorded 10 kills of her own, while senior Jessica Raines followed with seven kills and three total blocks.

Freshman JayCee Jones served as the libero for the final three sets and turned in a season-high 13 digs, while sophomore Mallory Swarts chipped in 10 digs of her own on defense.

Queens returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 3, when the team hosts Newberry College at 7 p.m. in the first game of a four-game homestand.
