CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team completed play in the Queens Volleyball Fall Invitational undefeated at 4-0 after picking up a pair of wins this afternoon over Augusta University, 3-1, and Francis Marion University, 3-1.

Game 1

After splitting two closely matched sets with the Jags, Queens moved ahead 2-1 picking up a third set victory, 25-18. They then battled out a 37-35 win in set four giving them the win and a new program record for most points scored in a set.

With the Jags trailing by just two, 18-16, at one point in the third, the Royals put together a 7-2 run to solidify the third set victory and pull in front, 2-1, over Augusta.

The final game saw 23 ties between the Royals and the Jags with the final coming when a kill from Augusta's Jessica Hedrick knotted things at 35-35. However, her point would be followed by a service error that put the Royals on top, 36-35, and returned the serve to Queens.
Jessica Raines then scored the winning point collecting an ace to make the score 37-35.

Rebecca Cochran led the Royals in the win with 18 kills, while
Taylor Henry and
Alex Thompson each added 12 kills.
Casey Tarvin totaled 11 kills, and Raines recorded 10 kills.
Mallory Swarts led on the defensive end with 20 digs, while
Sydney Kunz and Cochran each tallied 17 digs. Kunz also dished out 58 assists.

Game 2

After trailing early in the opening set with the Patriots, the Royals used a 9-2 run to pull ahead. They continued stringing together runs with their final push coming at the end of the set when they put six unanswered points on the board to win 25-15.

Queens then opened set two with an 8-0 run never looking back as they took the 2-0 lead over Francis Marion winning, 25-17.

The Patriots then tried to shake things up taking the win in set three, 25-23, and forcing a tightly contested fourth set of play. After a kill from Cochran set the Royals up for match point, a pair of errors by Queens helped the Patriots equalize the set at 24-24. Queens then closed things out with a 3-1 spurt sparked by a pair of kills from
Chanel Turner taking the 27-25 win.

Cochran and Raines led the Royals with 11 kills apiece, while Thompson totaled 10 kills. Kunz recorded 41 assists.

The Royals will be back in action at Flagler College September 8-9. Queens will face North Greenville on Friday at 1 p.m. before taking on both Lindenwood and Flagler on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
