Queens Falls in NCAA DII Regional Quarterfinals to Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team closed their 2017 season this evening in the NCAA Division II South Region Quarterfinal after falling 11-5 to top-seeded Lindenwood University. The Royals, ranked ninth in the nation, end the year at 17-4 while the Lions, nationally ranked third, move on to the semifinals in Bloomsburg, Pa., with a record of 21-1.
 
Abigail Paulus led the Royals with three points after scoring two goals and tallying one assist. Alexandra Bruder, Ally Blood, and Hanna Scott contributed one goal apiece. Goalkeeper Chase Brokaw completed the game with seven saves.
 
After falling behind 2-1 early, Queens' Bruder would bring the Royals to within one with a goal at 20:28. The Lions then scored four straight to take a 6-1 lead into the halftime break.
 
Queens kept the Lions from scoring at the start of the second not allowing a goal until 21:24. Blood then answered for the Royals at 20:30, but a pair of goals would follow for Lindenwood to help them extend their lead to seven, 9-2, with 15:10 to play. Queens would outscore the Lions 3-1 in the remaining minutes, but the first-half lead built by Lindenwood proved to be too much overcome for the Royals.
 
Queens was outshot 27-17 after putting 12 shots on goal compared to Lindenwood's 18 shots on goal. The Lions edged the Royals in ground balls, 16-15, and won the battle at the draw, 11-7.
 
Rachel Benzing led Lindenwood with five points on two goals and three assists. Hannah Doughty added two goals and one assist while Allison Hurley totaled two points with one goal and one assist. Rachel Ortell totaled seven saves in goal.
