CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Falling 82-68 this evening in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Southeast Regional Championship, the sixth-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals close their historical 2016-17 campaign at 30-4. The Railsplitter of Lincoln Memorial University move on to the Elite 8 for the second year in a row with the win, and their record improves to 29-5.
 
Mike Davis led the Royals this evening with 18 points and six rebounds, while Todd Withers added 16 points and eight rebounds. Ike Agusi added 15 points, while Daniel Camps totaled nine points and eight rebounds.
 
The Royals, who shot over 50-percent from the floor this year, had a hard time on the offensive end tonight posting a 36.8-perecent clip. Additionally, Queens shot 54.8-percent from the foul line connecting on 17-of-31 shots from the charity stripe.
 
Despite getting off to a slow start offensively, the Royals took advantage of the Railsplitters' seven turnovers to stay in the game. Queens would convert the ball-handling mishaps into 10 first-half points to keep things tight as the period saw 13 lead changes and seven ties. At the half, the home team trailed by just two points, 34-32.
 
It remained a close game in the second half with Queens grabbing the lead for the final time on a layup from Darryl White at 11:50 that put the Royals ahead, 43-42. Nearly three minutes later a three-pointer from Deshawn Patterson would return the lead to the Railsplitters for good. Patterson sparked a 15-4 run that put Lincoln Memorial in front, 57-48. They then extended their lead to 14 points before the final horn sounded.  
 
Patterson led Lincoln Memorial with 16 points, while both Trevon Shaw and Emanuel Terry totaled 15 points each. Paul Woodson added 11 points.
 
The all-tournament team was announced following the game with Queens' Withers earning a spot on the team. Shaw of the Railsplitters was named the most outstanding player and Perry was also named to the team. Additionally, Keshun Sherrill of Augusta and Shaq Dance of Limestone were recognized.
 
This season the Royals hit many milestones and set new records. The team is the winningest team in program history and the first to win both the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Titles. Additionally, the team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation after getting off to a record 16-0 start. The Royals will graduate just two from their roster, Jared Hendryx and Camps.
