Â
Queens got off to a slow start offensively in tonight's game, finding their rhythm late in the half when
Daniel Camps collected a steal and raced to the other end of the floor to score three points the old-fashioned way. His three points would be followed by a triple from
Todd Withers that put the Royals ahead 33-30 with 4:29 to play. Queens then kept control for the rest of the half, taking a 37-36 lead into the break.
Â
Queens really got going in the second half when following a 38-38 tie they put together a 16-4 run to lead 54-42 with 15:50 on the clock. Withers then connected on a three-pointer and a fastbreak dunk to put the Royals on top by 15 points, 59-44. Â The Royals went on to see their largest lead on a fastbreak layup from
Darryl White at 9:48 that put them ahead 71-52.
Â
The Indians made an attempt to comeback in the final minutes cutting the Royals' lead to seven with 15 seconds to play, but three free-throws from Alexander at the close helped Queens secure the victory.
Â
Rakeen Brown led Catawba with 23 points, while Jameel Taylor totaled 19 points and eight rebounds. KJ Arrington recorded 13 points and seven rebounds, and Troy Warren added 10 points and five rebounds.
Â
Queens will be on the road this weekend, traveling to No. 15 Lincoln Memorial University. On January 9 the Royals defeated the Railsplitters, 103-101, in an overtime thriller. It was the first time the Royals had beaten LMU since the 1992-93 season. Queens currently sits one game ahead of LMU at the top of the SAC standings.
