Highlights

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team remains undefeated after beating Carson-Newman University, 92-81, this evening in Curry Arena. The Royals, currently ranked second in the nation, now sit 9-0 on the year and 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Eagles drop to 9-2 on the season and 3-2 in league play.

Todd Withers had a double-double, recording a total of 18 points and 12 rebounds. He also reached his 1,000th career point on the final basket of the night. Lewis Diankulu led in scoring with his second straight 20 point performance this season. He also totaled seven rebounds. Additionally, Mike Davis helped with 16 points and Jalin Alexander totaled 15 points. Both Alexander and Davis totaled seven assists each.

A slam dunk from Todd Withers at the start of the game set the tone early for tonight's fast-paced game. The Eagles followed the opening bucket with seven straight points to lead 7-2 at just under the 16-minute mark. However, the Royals soon responded with a spurt of their own to take the lead for good on a dunk from Shaun Willett at 13:52. They would increase the margin to 17 points, 49-32, by the halftime break.

After extending the lead to 21 just three minutes into the second, the Royals held just a five-point lead, 65-60, at the midway point thanks to a 22-6 run by the Eagles. The Royals held their composure responding with 11 unanswered points to build their lead back out to 16 points, 76-60, with 7:07 to play. Carson-Newman would then cut Queens' lead down to eight before the Royals walked away with the 11-point win.

After being held to just seven points on 2-of-7 shooting in the opening half, Charles Clark finished with 22 points to lead Carson-Newman. Shaun Jones added 13 points while both Grant Teichmann and Josh Murray chipped in with 12 points apiece.

Queens is back in action at home on Saturday against Palm Beach Atlantic University. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
