CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-13, 28-26, 25-18) victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University in the team's final regular season home match.
The Royals remain in third place after improving to 19-6 overall and 13-5 in South Atlantic Conference action, while the Bears fell to eighth place with a 10-13 record and 6-11 mark in the league.
Queens hit .250 as a team in the match, including a .359 hitting mark in the opening set which helped the Royals cruise to a 12-point victory.
The two sides traded points for much of the second set with LR leading by as much as four points at 18-14. Queens responded with an 8-1 run to build a three-point lead of its own following back-to-back kills from freshman
Jordan Proszenyak and sophomore
Mallory Swarts.
The second set closed with Queens in front followed by a decisive seven-point win in the third and final set of play to secure the win for the Royals.
In addition to its strong performance at the net, Queens had 11 aces from the service line. The Royals lead all SAC schools with 169 service aces, a mark that has the team inside the Top 30 of all NCAA programs.
Proszenyak led the offense with 11 kills to go along with 12 digs for her first career double-double. Proszenyak and Swarts each had four service aces for the home team, while sophomore
Lexie Dolecheck added two of her own.
Senior
Sydney Kunz produced the other service aces for Queens to go along with 43 assists, and fellow senior
Alex Thompson finished with nine kills and a .563 hitting mark with four total blocks. Junior
Taylor Henry followed with a .583 hitting mark and eight kills, while senior
Jessica Raines had eight kills as well.
Queens finishes the season on the road next weekend when they travel to Tennessee for back-to-back matches against Lincoln Memorial University and Carson-Newman University.
