CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team had its recent three-game winning streak snapped on Friday night after falling 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 31-29, 25-16) to the Indians of Catawba College.
The Royals fell to 18-6 overall with a 12-5 mark in South Atlantic Conference play, while the Indians improved to 4-18 with a 2-15 mark in the league.
Queens won the opening set of play 25-21 behind a .260 hitting percentage, but struggled on offense in the second set leading to a loss.
The third set of action needed extra points to be decided. Neither side was able to build a lead of more than two points until the Indians built a 20-16 edge. Queens battled back to take a 25-24 lead on back-to-back kills from senior
Alex Thompson and freshman
Jordan Proszenyak.
However, the set remained close until the Indians used a 3-0 run to close out the set and claim the win. The fourth set began with Catawba scoring three unanswered points and hold on for a nine-point win to take the match.
Catawba had four players with double-digit kills, while Queens' junior
Taylor Henry led her team with 12 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Thompson and fellow senior
