FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team suffered a 76-62 loss in its season opener to Emmanuel College (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Royals (0-1) led 16-8 after the first quarter of play, but the Lions (1-0) outscored Queens by nine in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into intermission.
Emmanuel carried its momentum into the second half, winning the third quarter of play 26-7 to build a 20-point lead with 10 minutes to play. Queens cut the Lions' lead to singles digits with just over two minutes to play on a layup from junior transfer
Lade Adepoju, but EC closed the contest on an 8-2 run to put the game away.
Queens shot 40.4 percent from the floor and forced 22 turnovers on defense, but Emmanuel finished with a 51.7 percent mark from the field in the win. The Royals also out-rebounded the Lions 30-26 in the contest.
Senior
Mendy McNeese led all players with a career-high 25 points, including five made three-pointers. Adepoju followed with 11 points and six rebounds in her Queens debut, while sophomore
Madison Turlington and freshman
Herning Wang totaled seven and six points, respectively. Wang also pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
The Royals return to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 15 against Lees-McRae College in the team's home opener inside the Levine Center at 6 p.m.
