CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four separate players finished with double-digit kills on Friday night as the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team secured a 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16) win over league foe Mars Hill University.
The win helped Queens improve to 17-5 overall and 11-4 in the South Atlantic Conference, hitting .309 as a team. Mars Hill fell to 7-14 with a 5-9 mark in the league.
Queens hit .433 in the first set and committed just one attack error while holding the Lions to a .029 margin, leading a decisive 11-point victory.
After Queens went ahead 2-0 with a win in set two, Mars Hill responded with a four-point win in the third set to keep the match alive. The Royals were nearly perfect once again in the fourth set, committing just two errors on offense to put the match away.
Senior setter
Sydney Kunz directed the Queens' offense with 52 assists and 11 digs for her 12th double-double of the year, while fellow senior
Rebecca Cochran had a match-high 16 kills and 13 digs for her 15th double-double.
Freshman
Casey Tarvin followed with 13 kills of her own and senior
Alex Thompson tallied 12 kills and a .458 hitting percentage. Junior
Taylor Henry was the final Royal in double figures, finishing with 11 kills and a .450 hitting mark.
First-year libero
JayCee Jones led all players with 23 digs on defense, as fellow freshman
Jordan Proszenyak chipped in a career-high 21 digs from the back row. Sophomore
Mallory Swarts also contributed 12 digs to the defensive effort.
Queens remains at home tomorrow as the team hosts Tusculum College in the Levine Center at 2 p.m.
