CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team picked up a 3-2 win this afternoon over Converse College in what was the final home game of the season for the Royals. Queens moves to 6-9 with the Senior Day win, while the Valkyries fall to 2-11 on the year.
 
Seniors 
Kayleigh Lawrence and 
Abby Carls were honored prior to the start of the game for their contributions in helping to build the foundation of the Queens field hockey program.
 
Lawrence would be the first to score today after receiving a cross from 
Mazvita Mtisi in the 16
th minute of action. However, the Valkyries soon evened things up when Flore Samsi rebounded a shot to put the ball in the back of the cage in the 21
st. The 1-1 score then held until the halftime break.
 
Queens' next pair of goals would come in the 51
st and 54
th putting the home team on top, 3-1. Mtisi scored the first after rebounding a saved shot, and 
Hanna Nechay scored the second after taking a touch to pull Converse's keeper out of the net.
 
Converse would pull within one in the 62
nd when Marina Montes-Nino scored on a breakaway, but that would be as close as they would get to the Royals before time expired.
 
The Royals outshot Converse, 12-11, putting seven shots on goal. 
Miranda Childers totaled six saves in the cage.
 
Queens will wrap their season with a pair of road games beginning tomorrow at No. 9 Limestone. The Saints took the first matchup this year by a score of 11-4. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
