ANDERSON, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team had its recent eight-game winning streak come to end with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-15) loss to Anderson University on Tuesday night.
Queens struggled on the attack, hitting a season-low .076 as a team to fall to 15-5 overall and 9-4 in South Atlantic Conference play. In contrast, Anderson improved to 17-3 with an 11-1 mark in the league after registering a .308 hitting percentage in taking the regular season series from the Royals.
The Royals held an early 5-3 lead in the first set, but the Trojans used a 5-1 run to take an 8-6 advantage. Anderson's lead stretched to a seven-point lead late in the frame and hit .400 as a unit to win the opening set.
Queens once again led early in the second set after consecutive kills from freshman
Casey Tarvin, however Anderson's defense forced the Royals into a negative hitting mark, leading to a loss. The third was controlled by the host as the Trojans earned the sweep.
Tarvin led the Royals with eight kills, followed by five kills from senior
Jessica Raines. Senior
Rebecca Cochran and
Alex Thompson each registered four kills, while Cochran chipped in eight digs on defense.
Sophomore
Mallory Swarts totaled a team-high 10 digs, while senior setter and reigning SAC Women's Volleyball Specialist of the Week
Sydney Kunz tallied 19 assists and six digs.
The Royals have a week off before they return home for their next match on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when the team welcomes the 11-time defending SAC Champion Wingate University to the Levine Center for a 7 p.m. first tip.
