CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team avenged their early season loss to Newberry College this afternoon defeating the Wolves, 3-1, at Bessant Field. The Royals now sit at 5-9 on the year while the Wolves drop to 6-9.

Queens jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the game when
Mazvita Mtisi found
Jocelyn Lawrence racing up the field and fed her the ball for a goal scored right in front of the net. The Wolves would answer about 10 minutes late when Olivia Fraunfelter broke away from Queens' defense to beat
Miranda Childers in the cage for a goal. The pair of goals would be the only ones scored in the opening period of regulation.

In the second half, Queens pulled ahead, 2-1, when Lawrence found her second goal of the day after receiving a pass from
Sta'sha Waterfield.
Korey Fine then scored the Royals' insurance goal in the 63
rd minute after collecting a pass from
Kayleigh Lawrence.

Queens outshot the Wolves, 17-9, putting six shots on goal to Newberry's four. The Royals also won 16 penalty corners to Newberry's five. Childers picked up her fourth win of the season after tallying three saves.

Queens will be back at home on Saturday, October 21 when they take on Converse College. In addition, the Royals will celebrate Senior Day.
