CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team grabbed another South Atlantic Conference win at Dickson Field, defeating Wingate University on September 21, 2016. Queens would move to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference as Wingate would drop to 3-3-1 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Early in the third minute,
Charlotte Ring set the pace as she took off on a fast break and scored the first goal for the Royals.
Miranda Dechant was awarded the assist on the play. The Bulldogs tried their hardest to get off a shot, but they were unsuccessful against goalkeeper
Rachel Quest as she had three saves in the first half not allowing Wingate to score. Midfielder
Thea Mallett captured her sixth goal of the season later on in the 22nd as she bulldozed the ball into the net following a bad clearance by Wingate's back line.
Late in the 60th Wingate's Taylor Leyble squeezed the ball right through the keeper's hands and secured a point on the board for the Bulldogs. Soon after, Queens'
Kathy Fisher was shown a red card in the 63rd Queens forcing the Royals to play a man down for the rest of the game. However, this would not cripple the home team as they held off the Bulldogs attack to remain undefeated at home this season.
Queens' Quest completed play with seven saves to grab the win in goal.
Queens will be back in action for another South Atlantic Conference match on Saturday September 24, 2016 as they host Carson-Newman College at 1 p.m. The Royals fell 2-1 to the Eagles during the 2015 season.
