Royals Fall to Anderson at Home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team welcomed Anderson University to Curry Arena this afternoon for a South Atlantic Conference game, falling 71-43 to the Trojans. Queens' record now sits at 0-7 on the year and 0-2 in SAC play, while Anderson improves to 5-1 on the year and 2-0 in the league.
 
Sarah Henson got the Royals going in the opening minutes of the game with four straight points to help Queens hold a 4-2 lead at 7:48. However, a jumper from Anderson's Heather Jankowy quickly knotted the game at 4-4 and the Trojans went on to build a 12-4 lead by the 4:11 mark. They held a 10-point advantage, 18-8, before Mendy McNeese scored a layup at the end of the period to give the game an 18-10 score heading into the second quarter.
 
Trailing by 10, 26-16, with 4:31 to play in the second, Queens went on a 9-4 run to cut the Trojans lead to five, 30-25. A free-throw in the closing seconds of the half gave Anderson a 31-25 lead at the break.
 
The Trojans were able to extend their lead to 22, 53-31, by the end of the third quarter after holding Queens to just six points in the period. They then went on to see their largest lead of the day in the fourth quarter when a layup from Tamia Eatmon put them ahead by 28, 71-43, with 1:18 to play.
 
The Royals struggled shooting this afternoon, posting a 32.6-percent clip. Anderson shot 53.5-percent from the floor. Additionally, the Trojans were able to convert the Royals' 20 turnovers into 21 points.
 
McNeese led Queens with 10 points, while Henson added eight points. Maggie Steward totaled seven rebounds.
 
The Trojans were led by Jasmine Franklin who recorded a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Madison Baggett also scored 12 points.
 
Queens will be on the road at Brevard College on Wednesday, December 7 at 6 p.m. The Royals swept the Tornados last season in the home and home series.
