Queens Extends Win Streak to Eight with Win over Anderson

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team hosted Anderson University in Curry Arena this afternoon for a South Atlantic Conference game, winning 75-63 over the Trojans Queens, who ranks nationally at No. 9 in the DII Media Poll and No. 13 in the NABC Poll, now holds a record of 8-0 on the year and 2-0 in SAC play. The Trojans fall to 3-5 on the year and 1-1 in the league.

After four lead changes and a tie in the first eight minutes of play, Queens used a 21-3 run to lead 29-13 with 8:16 to play. Mike Davis and Todd Withers each scored two from behind the arc during the run. Queens continued to string together runs in the final minutes of the half, seeing their largest lead of the half at 3:29 on a three from Jalin Alexander that put the home team ahead, 39-20. They went on to take a 45-30 advantage into the locker room at the break.

Despite the Trojans cutting the Royals' lead to 11, 45-34, with 17:37 to play in the second, Queens held a 55-38 lead with 14:51 to play thanks to a 10-4 spurt sparked by an and-one play from Alexander. Later, a three-pointer from Withers at 12:32 would help Queens match its largest lead of the game, giving them a 62-43 advantage. The Trojans made a final push in the last five minutes of regulation, but would only close the margin to 12 as the Royals went on to grab their eighth victory in a row. Withers led the Royals in the second half, totaling 11 points in the period after connecting on 3-of-5 from deep.

Queens was outscored 30-22 in the paint, but would total 20 fastbreak points to Anderson's six today. The Royals also converted The Trojans' 19 turnovers into 19 points.

Withers led with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Davis added 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Jalin Alexander totaled 15 points.

The Trojans were led by Randall Shaw who totaled 19 points and seven rebounds. Maurice Howard added 12 points, and Warren Vinson totaled 10 points.

Queens will be on the road at Brevard College on Wednesday, December 7 at 8 p.m. The Royals swept the Tornados last season in the home and home series.
