ORANGEBURG, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team fell 79-51 on the road at Claflin on Saturday, November 19, 2016. The Royals move to a 0-4 record while the Panthers now hold a 3-1 record for the start of the season.
McKell Oliverio led the team with 16 points and four rebounds. Three Royals tallied eight points in the game as
Sarah Henson,
Maggie Stewart, and
Sheridan Pressley aided the team's offense as the Royals shot 60.6 percent from the floor compared to Panthers 45.5 percent.
Joclyn Ramos tallied 21 points to lead the floor in addition to four rebounds. Claflin's Dionna Marcus led the team in rebounds as she tallied nine.
Claflin took a fast start putting an eight point gap on the board within the first three minutes of play, 10-2. The Royals found their offense as they slowly moved through the first quarter, eventually cutting the lead to five with a long range basket from Oliverio, 20-15. Although Queens continued to hit shots in the second quarter, Claflin extended their lead to 14 points (34-20) with 4:18 to play in the half. The Royals would trail at the break 42-26.
Another slow start coming out half pushed the Panthers' lead to 26 as the Royals found just a basket from
Carmen Richardson and a free throw from Henson in the opening minutes. Henson broke a four minute dry spell with a three-pointer but the team was unable to bring the gap under 20 points before the game ended.
The Royals will be back at home on Tuesday, November 22, against Newberry. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
