CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team fell to Newberry College on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, dropping to 66-58 to the Wolves. Queens dropped to a 0-5 start and a 0-1 record within the South Atlantic Conference. Newberry moved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in SAC play.

McKell Oliverio led the team with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Maggie Stewart followed with 13 points to add to the Royals score in addition to tying Oliverio with seven rebounds.
Sarah Henson totaled nine points while
Carmen Richardson and
Sheridan Pressley equaled at eight points.

Meg Essex led the Wolves finding 18 points during the conference event. She was followed by Shelby Britten with 16 points and Nicola Handreck with 11. Handreck also tallied eight rebounds to lead the team in the statistical category.

Newberry closed out the first quarter with an eight points lead after Courtney Lions made a three-pointer with less than a minutes to play. The Royals would trail by ten in the opening minutes of the second quarter but the team slowly chipped away at the lead, starting with a basket from Henson. Back-to-back baskets brought the team within three points with three minutes to play. Oliverio would snap the two minute dry spell to bring the team within one point heading into the break, 28-27.

A 12-point unanswered run by the Wolves shifted moment in the third quarter as Queens looked to stop the four minute long streak from Newberry. Stewart stopped the run putting Queens back in the game at 45-33. The lead would extend to 16 after Newberry saw back-to-back free-throws by Shelby Britten, but the Royals fought to come within 11 points by the end of the period. Both teams found baskets in the fourth quarter but the Royals would run out of time, bringing the score back under ten in the closing minutes. Â
