CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team faced Lees-McRae College this evening in Curry Arena, winning 84-69 over the Bobcats to improve to 4-0 on the year. Lees-McRae sits at 0-4 on the season.
Â
The Royals found themselves trailing 14-5 early in tonight's game after the Bobcats responded to Queens' 5-0 opening run with 14 straight points. A 13-4 push capped with three-points scored the old-fashioned way by
Todd Withers soon followed for Queens as they tied the game up at 18-18. Queens then regained control of the lead on an and-one play from
Darryl White that put them ahead 28-26 with 3:50 to play. However, they still were not able to create much space between themselves and the Bobcats before the break as the game saw its sixth tie before Queens took a 41-39 halftime lead.
Â
Following a pair of free-throws from Lees-McRae's Donte Falls that put the visitors ahead, 51-50, in the second half, the Royals put together a 20-0 run highlighted with fastbreak dunks from both
Daniel Camps and Withers. The 20 unanswered points put Queens in front, 71-51, which was their largest lead of night.
Â
Camps led the Royals with a career-high 25 points for the second time this season. Withers added 15 points, while
Ike Agusi and White each scored 11 points. Camps also led in rebounds with eight and in steals with five. Agusi tallied nine assists.
Â
The Bobcats were led by Jordan Turner who scored 18 points. Falls finished with 11 points.
