Royals Handle Tornados on Senior Day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Queens University of Charlotte women's soccer team picked up a commanding Senior Day victory this afternoon, defeating Brevard College 5-0. The Royals close the regular season with an 8-3 South Atlantic Conference record, and a 10-6 overall record. The Tornados end the year at 0-10-1 in the SAC and 3-13-1 overall.

The Royals controlled the possession for much of the game today, outshooting Brevard 37-1. Queens put 17 shots on goal led by Alana Jefferson and Madison Omli who each put three shots on frame. Rachel Quest earned her seventh shutout of the season in the win.

Thea Mallet struck first for Queens, scoring a goal in the seventh minute of action. Mallet received a through ball from Charlotte Ring up the middle of the field before scoring what would be the game winner. The 1-0 score held until the halftime break despite the Royals putting five other shots on goal in the period.

Queens got hot in the second with their first two goals of the period coming from Madison Omli. Omli netted her first goal of the season at minute 58 connecting on a ball she received up the middle from Sydney Michelin. She then found the back of the net again in the 73rd off of a corner kick. Brevard's keeper bobbled the ball, and Omli took advantage of the opportunity to score.

Jefferson followed Omli's second goal with one in the 75th, taking a touch and beating her defender before drilling the ball into the net for a 4-0 lead.

The final goal of the day came in the final second of play as Mariah Lewis found Kelli Gottry racing up the middle of the box for her first goal of the season.

Prior to the start of today's game, the Royals recognized 13 seniors for their careers as Royals. They were Danielle Nicosia, Kelli Gottry, Kathy Fisher, Ashley Osiecki, Shelby Osiecki, Caitlyn Rodrigues, Alex Duty, Sydney Michelin, Julianna Tucker, Erin Morabito, Jill Clark, Hannah Younger and Brenna Kate Grass.

The Royals will wait to see where they land in the final conference standings before heading into the quarterfinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Tuesday, November 1.
