Box Score Charlotte, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's volleyball team grabbed their first conference win of the year on Friday, September 18, 2015, going 3-1 over the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial. The 17-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-17 match win moved the Royals to a 2-5 overall record and 1-2 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Railsplitters would drop to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.
Although the first set would go the Railsplitters, Queens dominated the next three sets to overtake Lincoln Memorial.
Meredith Jones took the lead for the team grabbing 17 kills in the night's competition. She also had 10 digs.
Jessica Raines added 10 additional kills to the Royals stat line in addition to claiming two blocks.
Queens claimed an early lead in Set 2 but Lincoln Memorial would find a 5-0 run to bring the game to a 6-4 Railsplitters lead. Trailing slightly, the Royals forced a takeover at 21-21 to move ahead by two points. Queens would go on to win the set 25-22.
Both teams remained close in the third set with Queens holding the upper hand throughout the majority of the game. Lincoln Memorial found their tying point off a hit from Kiera Holland forcing Queens to find an answer. They did find their response in
Elizabeth Bialkowski who brought the game to set point. Although a service error gave one more chance to Railsplitters, a block from Raines and Bialkowski brought things to a close.
The Royals pushed out to a 17-10 lead forcing the Railsplitters to burn both of their timeouts early. The team would be unable to catch the Royals and a service ace form
Taylor Henry and an attacking error from Lincoln Memorial gave Queens the win.
The Royals will host Carson Neman tomorrow at 2 p.m. inside the Levine Center.
