Charlotte, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team played competitively on Saturday, March 28, 2015, against the Brevard College Tornados securing all but one court for an 8-1 victory. The Royals improved to 8-1 (3-1 SAC) while the Tornados dropped down to a 4-10 record (0-8 SAC).
Continuing to dominate on the doubles courts, Queens took all three points seeing all six guys persevere for the win.
Per-Erik Soler and
Andor Vas topped the singles lineup with a 9-7 victory over No. 1 Tornados partners Nathan Sabate and David Taggart.
Jules Athalis and
Will Roberson finalized court 2 going 8-5 over Rory Northam and Christoph Plasa.
Zachary Williams and
Ole-Jacob Meum completed the shut out keeping a spotless 8-0 record on court 3 against George Finch and Richie Liell.
After the impressive doubles play, Queens set forth to take on the singles lineup with Soler at the top in the No. 1 spot. In a battle on court 1, Soler found a first set victory coming out on top with a 9-7 score over Taggart. The second set would come slightly easier as the junior found a 6-2 win for the point. Athalis dominantly pursued the No. 2 singles with mirror 6-1 sets taking the victory for the team. Williams's game for the No. 6 singles was the last game to start before Queens found its fifth team point. Williams held control for his two set matchup against Richie Liell shutting out the Brevard opponent to the take a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Vas and Meum took care of their matchups seeing an 8-2 win on court 4 and a 8-4 win on court 5, respectively, adding to the successful Royals day.
Queens will face another conference opponent tomorrow as they head to Carson-Newman for a 1 p.m. start time against the Eagles.
