Queens tennis ends season with semifinal losses

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Both the men's and women's tennis teams travelled to Rock Hill today to participate in the South Atlantic Conference tournament. Both teams were ultimately unsuccessful in their bid to make the finals with the women falling to Tusculum 5-3 and the men to the Wingate 5-1.

Men

Facing the number one seed in the tournament and #35 ranked Bulldogs the Royals hung tough throughout the match, but were ultimately unable to stop the play of their opponents. Queens started the match picking up one doubles point when the pairing of Ole-Jacob Meum and Andre Bafume picked up an 8-6 win.

With the Bulldogs clicking the Royals eventually dropped the match 5-1 to end their title hopes and complete their season with a record of 13-6.

Women

The Royals women faced off against a strong Tusculum side, and like the men found themselves in a 2-1 hole after doubles. Earning a point for the Royals was the pairing of Christina Rustscheff and Melissa Laing by the score of 8-5.

The pair kept their winning ways going in the singles portion with Rustscheff winning 6-0, 6-2, and Laing taking her match 6-2, 6-2. But, Queens could not keep the momentum going, and eventually dropped the match 5-3. Queens ends their season 15-4.
