Box Score Charlotte, NC - Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team (4-11, 1-6 SAC) fell in three sets to the Wolves of Newberry College (8-7, 2-5 SAC) on Friday, October 03, 2014. The two teams clashed, but Newberry took the upper hand in the match with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 match win.
Meredith Jones led the Royals for the night with 11 kills tying her season high record set against Montevallo on September 5th. 
Katie Schoenrock came away from the match with seven kills and one block in addition to setting a career high eight digs for the night. She trailed 
Megan Mancini who led the Royals with 12 digs.
The Royals took a total 34 digs in their face off against Newberry in addition to 30 assists and 31 kills. The two teams would tie twenty one times during the match with ten tying points coming in the third set alone. Queens would only find four total blocks in the match compared to 16 on the Newberry side.
Newberry's Jessica King led the Wolves with seven digs and five blocks. She was followed by Logan Hayward who would walk away from the match with six digs and three blocks. Lauren Prachar would swoop up ten digs for Newberry while Amanda Soper gave the Wolves four more blocks.
Newberry started the first set off by grabbing the first point from a Hayward kill, however the Royals refused to let them get an early lead. Queens would maintain their pressure eventually overcoming Newberry at 5-4 as Jones flew one past the Newberry front. The two teams would swap the next couple of points with Newberry eventually finding a three point buffer (9-6). It was again Jones who would bring the Royals back within one (9-8), however the Wolves would find a groove with a 5-1 run to bring the game to 14-9. Queens would again work their way back into match with 
Sydney Kunz driving a serve onto the Newberry side to pull the Royals within two (19-17). However, the team would only find two more points from 
Alex Thompson and a Newberry error. The first set would end with a 6-2 Newberry run for a set score of 25-19.
Queens would take hold of the second set with a quick 3-0 start before Newberry would be able to bring the game to a 4-4 tie. The two would come out of a 5-5 tie with a 7-2 Newberry run to force Queens to work its way out of a 12-7 hole. Jones would take two kills in a run to bring the Royals back to a 12-12 tie before 
Jessica Raines buried one for the go-ahead point. The two teams would again meet at 16-16 but Rachel Moran would take three aces to launch Newberry into a 25-19 victory.
It was an equally battled start for the two squads as the third set got underway. With a tied game at 5-5, Newberry would slowly pull out into a 10-6 lead, forcing the Royals to take a timeout. Queens would manage to take hold of the next four points to force a tie at 10-10. Schoenrock would take two kills and Raines one in an attacking front by the Royals which eventually led to a 14-13 Queens lead. Newberry would quickly battle back running off five unanswered (19-14) before Raines would put a brief halt in the Wolves advance. Newberry would soon find themselves with a 21-16 lead in the third set. Unwilling to cave, the Royals brought an impressive offensive frenzy led by Jones and Raines to tie the game at 23-23 all. Unable to continue their 6-1 streak, Newberry fired off a kill from Amanda Soper before a Royals error would end the match 25-23.
Queens will be back in action on Saturday, October 4, 2014 as they host Anderson University (12-3, 5-2 SAC) at 2 PM.
